Our aim is to improve the quality of life of mega cities. By showing that vermiculture, pollution free vehicles, and greening projects can be used to solve some of the waste management and air quality problems of a city the size of Mumbai, one of the largest and densest cities in the world, we can provide a model that can be applied, with only minor adjustments, to almost any city worldwide. Through these actions we seek to bring humanity back in tune with our environment. As population increases and with it the strain on natural resources, environmentally sound policies become more than a good idea, they become a life or death necessity. If we restore the cycle, sustainable development becomes more than just a buzzword, it becomes a way of life. |
I am quite impresed with the vermiculture project.
I hope this movement spreads like wildfire to all localities of Mumbai.

Climate Change has overtaken us in the last few decades.
It is time to review life styles and to take help from those whose generation handled it better. Senior citizens are, therefore, a treasure which can be shared. Specially by those budding lives who have a long way to go and who may have to take the consequences of the current working generation's profligacy and short-sightedness. 'LinkAges for Climate' suggests linking students with grandparents, a Gran-Child programme, a joint HelpAge India- Clean Air Island project sponsored by HelpAge India for 10 schools. It is designed to use the strong points of each age to transmit not only skills but attitudes, through a rare bonding in productive activities needed to stem back Climate Change.
The three activities are
| 1. Home Remedies |
| 2. Re-use practices |
| 3. Vermiculture and Organic farming at school. |
2009/2010 saw the advent of this programme in 10 schools in Mumbai. Over 1000 students from Stds. VII TO X participated.
| 1. Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, | Navy Nagar, | South Mumbai. |
| 2. Kendriya Vidyalaya-2, | Navy Nagar, | South Mumbai. |
| 3. Kendriya Vidyalaya-3, | Navy Nagar, | South Mumbai. |
| 4. Army School, | Navy Nagar, | South Mumbai. |
| 5. St. Joseph's High School, | Navy Nagar, | South Mumbai. |
| 6. Villa Teresa, | Peddar Road, | Central Mumbai. |
| 7. Ryan International School, | Kandivili East, | North Mumbai. |
| 8. St Xavier's School, | Dhobi Talao, | South Mumbai. |
| 9. Social Service League School, | Parel, | Central Mumbai. |
| 10.St. Paul High School, | Parel, | Central Mumbai. |
The programme continues in 2010 and 2011 for these schools with the addition of Organic farming, to complete a 'Waste to Food cycle'. It would like to spread to more schools with additional sponsorships.
